Portraits. Photography workshop. Montreal.

The portrait is the most common work that most photographers do. Even if you are focused on photojournalism or street photography there will always be a need for portraits.

What is the main difference between a portrait session and other photo works?
A portrait is always a common work of the photographer and the model.

Katia, our model for this workshop:

This work starts even before the actual session with a discussion of the style and choosing the location for the session. It is very important to be on the same wavelength as your client and to share as many images as possible to have a common understanding of the goal. Of course, this is always a compromise between the client’s desires, the skills of the photographer, and the shooting environment.

In our workshop, we will gradually move from the simplest poses to more complex and artistic ones. We will learn how to communicate with a model and will try some tricks to get more relaxed and natural-looking images.

It is stressful when you have to give commands to a person but it is getting easier if you have been trained and have a plan for the next 2 hours. Preparing and practicing different poses, shooting close-ups, two-thirds and full-figure portraits, shooting static and in motion. We will play many possible scenarios and your future portrait shooting will be productive and less stressful.

We will have two models in the workshop. First, they will be posing separately and in the second part, we will be practicing the most difficult stuff – posing two people in the frame.
